Silo Bird Feeder
Silo Bird Feeder by Mika + Julie Tolvanen for Pidät.
The debut product for Pidät is the Silo Bird feeder by Helsinki-based Mika and Julie Tolvanen. With time and patience placed into studying the eating habits of birds using prototype feeders, the duo created the Silo to function as a grain silo.
The design of this feeder is uniquely tailored to feed bird species that cling vertically while eating. Depending on the location, this feeder will attract chickadees, titmice, nuthatches and woodpeckers. Due to the upright design, birds who prefer perches will not be attracted to this feeder.
To accompany the dietary needs of these breeds, the feeder holds sunflower seeds or peanuts. Sunflower seeds with a shell should be used, especially in rainy or humid weather, to protect the sunflower hearts from moisture that can cause harmful bacteria.
Pidät is a studio that focuses on design for a circular economy. They do this with the bird feeder by using 100% upcycled post-consumer waste and the rope is coloured using a water-free dyeing process.
The stainless steel hardware is certified ‘safe for toys'' and the design allows for easy assembly and disassembly. All the parts can be separated and recycled contributing back to the circular economy.
