Biennale Stool
Biennale Stool by Kari Virtanen for Nikari.
Designed in 2014 by Kari Virtanen for the Venice Biennale of Architecture, the Biennale stool is produced in solid oak using traditional carpentry techniques.
Each stool expresses the unique cracks and knots produced by an oak tree several decades old, celebrating the natural qualities of the wood. Though elemental in aesthetics, each stool requires careful craftsmanship and several demanding and time-consuming steps.
The surface of the stool is treated twice with a wood oil mixture and sanded between treatments to reach the smoothest possible texture.
