Carlo De Carli

Carlo De Carli was born in 1910 in Italy. The designer and architect's work has had an important impact on the cultural landscape of design. His theories and ethics around shapes, and spaces key to our understanding of modern design.  

After studying architecture at the Politecnico di Milan in 1934, he started to teach there. As a professor, Carli worked at the college for most of his life, starting in 1965 and finishing in 1986. It was in this space that he formed his concepts of spaces, materials and the human body. He forged a space of design theory in academia. 

Although as an academic he was still involved in creating furniture and buildings; often working with the master architect Gio Ponti. 

His furniture designs for Gubi are still in production today.
