Gino Sarfatti

The Venetian designer Gino Sarfatti was born in 1912. His iconic modern take on a chandelier is still loved and produced by Flos today.

With an education in engineering, he started his career in 1939 at the Arteluce Company. The lighting company became at the forefront of Italian lighting design, collaborating with designers such as Franco Albini, Gianfranco Frattini, Sergio Asti and Ico Parisi.

Sarfatti created over 400 lighting designs for them, experimenting with traditional forms, twisting them through new light sources and materials along with a modern mindset and philosophy. He designed the first light to use a Halogen bulb in 1971.

His work was critically-acclaimed, winning the Compasso d'Oro in 1954 and 1955.
