Richard Woods

Richard Woods was born in 1966 in Chester and trained as a sculptor at the Slade School of Art, London, graduating in 1990.

A concern for surfaces is a consistent theme in his work, which ranges from architectural interventions to individual works that explore the nature of surface pattern and the contemporary obsession with DIY and the cult of home improvement.

Woods' recent commissions include interiors for the Comme des Garçons' flagship store in Osaka and the former home of Hollywood actor Cary Grant, now owned by curator and collector, Jeffrey Deitch. In 2003 he contributed the centrepiece to The Henry Moore Foundation's exhibition at the 50th International Venice Biennale of Art.

His works are held in major art collections including the Saatchi Collection, Arts Council England, and the British Museum.
