German architect and designer Werner Stoff is today best known for one of his smaller-scale works: a candlestick system he designed in the 1960s.
Stoff was encouraged by his friend Paul Nagel, owner of a metalworking company, to design a new candle holder for the company to manufacture. Working with Nagel, Stoff designed a modular system of tripod candlestick units that could be combined in stacking formation to create elaborate structures. The ingenious design, originally named S22, was launched in 1967 and proved immediately popular.
Previously only available as sought-after vintage items, the Stoff candlestick has now been reissued by Scandinavian design house Just Right.
