Wooden Chair
Wooden chair by Marc Newson for Cappellini.
From a desire to push the boundaries of manipulation with wood, the Australian designer Marc Newson developed the Wooden Chair in 1992, a sculptural piece of furniture that offers surprising comfort.
His daring experiments with the natural material led him to develop a fluid and continuous form made from steam-bent beech wood strips. The seat has a 'double curve' or 'alpha' shape, whilst the backrest extends down, around and back. The horizontal bracing at each end provides strength and support, making the seat robust and long-lasting.
With its organic form, made from oiled natural solid beech wood, the seat invites a warm presence to its space.
