The Seki-Han Suspension is a lighting design originally conceived in 1963 by Tobia Scarpa for Flos and reissued in 2025 with updated LED technology and a suspended format. It features two horizontal ash wood blades joined by chromed metal fittings, arranged around a central tubular light source. The construction draws on naval woodworking techniques, using layered timber methods to achieve structural precision and controlled movement.
The blades rotate independently, allowing the light to shift between direct and indirect emission, with symmetrical or asymmetrical distribution. A custom-developed dimmable LED provides the primary light source, with compatibility for standard T8 LED tubes. As the wooden elements move, they reveal a continuous narrow slit of light, producing a precise illumination effect that changes with each adjustment.
Seki-Han functions as a balance between craftsmanship and engineering, where tactile ash wood and controlled light emission come together in a dynamic, sculptural lighting system.
