The Seki-Han Lamp, originally designed in 1963 by Tobia Scarpa and reissued by Flos in 2025, reinterprets a seminal design through contemporary lighting technology while preserving its architectural intent. Composed of two ash wood blades inspired by naval woodworking techniques, the structure encloses a central linear LED light source and reflects Scarpa’s precision in material joinery and mechanical clarity. The blades can be rotated to modulate light emission, shifting between direct and indirect illumination, while maintaining a fine slit of visible light that defines its signature glow.
Updated with a custom-developed dimmable LED system for improved efficiency and control, the reissue enhances functionality without altering its essential character. Slightly refined in proportion for a more architectural presence, Seki-Han embodies the balance between craft and technology, where the tactility of wood, mechanical movement, and precise light control come together in a dynamic floor lamp.
