Originally conceived in 1928 by architect Mogens Koch for his own home, the MK Shelving System is a landmark of Danish functionalist design. Created to accommodate books of varying heights, the modular system was designed to adapt effortlessly to changing domestic interiors. Crafted from solid wood with carefully considered proportions that maximise storage, Koch continued to refine the system until 1962. The result is a remarkably versatile collection whose enduring functionality remains as relevant today as when it was first conceived.
The MK73 is the only cabinet module within the wider MK Shelving System, featuring four internal compartments concealed behind two doors. It can be wall-mounted for a streamlined appearance or paired with a floor plinth to create a freestanding configuration, integrating seamlessly with other modules in the collection. Exquisitely crafted, dovetail joints, bevelled slatted doors, solid brass fittings and an engraved key reflect the exceptional level of craftsmanship behind the design. Requiring extensive specialist training and around three days to construct, each cabinet exemplifies the precision and lasting quality that define Koch's work.
