Pacha Outdoor Ottoman
Pacha Outdoor Ottoman by Pierre Paulin for Gubi.
The Pacha ottoman is an iconic piece of furniture originally designed by renowned French designer Pierre Paulin. This ottoman perfectly embodies the changing design style of its era, moving away from the austerity of post-war design to a new and dynamic approach. The outdoor ottoman complements the Pacha Outdoor Lounge chair but works alone as a great piece of outdoor furniture.
One of the key design elements that set the Pacha ottoman apart is the careful attention to detail that Paulin put into creating the perfect proportions and elegant rounded forms. By raising the ottoman lightly on its base and incorporating stitching lines that angle inward, Paulin was able to achieve a sense of real sophistication and grace.
Paulin's innovative approach to design is evident in the Pacha range, which helped to pioneer the concept of low-level living. By doing away with chair legs and focusing on creating organic, curvaceous shapes that serve the body, Paulin was able to provide both comfort and cosiness in his designs. The Pacha range is a testament to Paulin's commitment to starting every design with comfort in mind, resulting in furniture that is both whimsical and functional.
Pierre Paulin (b.1927) studied at Ecole Camondo Design School in Paris and thereafter joined Marcel Gasoin’s studio. His own work was recognised at the Salon des Arts Menagers exhibition in 1953 and he began a longstanding association with the Dutch firm Artifort. His designs for Artifort were strong expressions in form using new textiles and foam technology.
