Dandelion paperweight, 1968

Dandelion paperweight designed by B&A Needham for Hafod Grange.

A complete seed head captured in perfect symmetry before a gust of wind disperses the seeds. Clear polyester resin containing a UV filter is used to stop fading and to embed the botanical specimens without destroying them, as molten glass would.

The globe shape allows the specimen to be seen in its beauty from all angles, creating a crystal clear effect.

Each specimen is hand-picked, then dried using a range of techniques designed to preserve their natural beauty. Next, they are cast in clear resin and then individually turned and polished to a superb finish. Because of the nature of the product, each paperweight is an original work of art, with no two being identical, making it an ideal gift and collectable.

Available in large and small sizes.

Made in Wales, UK.

The original paperweights were produced by Barry Needham, after a friend challenged him to capture an entire dandelion clock without damaging it in any way. He embraced the challenge and after numerous attempts patient experimentation Barry Needham perfected a technique for preserving plants and flowers in this way. His designs are now produced by his brother, Alan, who continued his brother's work on a commercial basis after his death.
