Hardy side table
Hardy side table by David Irwin for Another Country.
The Hardy series is a range of chairs and tables inspired by Thomas Hardy's poem Old Furniture, an ode to the sentimentality of furniture being handed down the generations.
“At the start of the poem Hardy reminisces about old family furniture passed down through generations and I drew parallels here with my own work.” Irwin explains.
Two chair typologies from the 19th century, Thomas Hardy's birth century, inspired its design: firstly the Captain's chair originally a low-backed wooden armchair and secondly, the Smokers bow, a low back Windsor, often used in smoking rooms, public houses, barbers shops, and cottages. Irwin's wood side table is reminiscent of this period as the soft curves are reflected in the piece.

Another Country makes contemporary craft furniture and accessories.
Another Country designs are archetypal, calling on the familiar and unpretentious forms of British country-kitchen style, Shaker, traditional Scandinavian and Japanese woodwork for inspiration. Re-interpretting the spirit and functionality of these forms of furniture for a modern customer, they make use of simple craft techniques and work in as sustainable a way as possible.
