Wiggle side chair, 1972
Wiggle side chair by Frank Gehry for Vitra.
Designed by the renowned architect Frank Gehry, the Wiggle chair is part of the Easy Edges' furniture series - a collection comprising 13 pieces of furniture made from cardboard.
A staple in Frank Gehry's office, corrugated cardboard was commonly used by the architect to create building models. One day, he decided to play with the material, cutting it into shapes with a hand saw and a pocket knife. He discovered that if he layered the cardboard repeatedly in alternate directions, he could create sturdy and fluid forms from the everyday shipping material.
The result is an astonishingly robust piece of furniture with a unique silhouette and texture.
