Isamu Noguchi, an American-Japanese artist and designer, began creating the Akari Light Sculptures in 1951. The name Akari, when translated, means brightness, lightness and light. The iconic series includes over 100 handcrafted Shoji-paper models for table lamps, floor lamps, and ceiling fixtures, all hand-crafted in the Gifu region of Japan.
Herman Miller has the sole license for the Isamu Noguchi collection in the U.S. and the Far East. Therefore the export of these products from the UK to the U.S. is not possible.

Made with handmade washi paper and bamboo ribbing, supported by a metal frame.
The lamps are handcrafted in the family-run Ozeki workshop based in Gifu, Japan.
