Akari UF3-Q

Akari UF3-Q by Isamu Noguchi for Vitra.

Isamu Noguchi, an American/Japanese artist and designer, began designing the Akari Light Sculptures in 1951. The series comprises over 100 hand-made Shoji-paper models for table lights, standard lamps, or ceiling luminaires. Noguchi chose the name "Akari" for this lighting series, which means brightness, lightness, and light in Japanese.

Over the years, Noguchi made further improvements to the design of his sculptures, including the bases. In the 1980s, he introduced the "UF" (unit-based frame) stand with longer and splayed legs, which elevated large shades higher from the ground.

Herman Miller has the sole license for the Isamu Noguchi collection in the U.S. and the Far East. Therefore the export of these products from the UK to the U.S. is not possible.
