The Bacchette Chair, designed by Mentsen in 2022 and crafted by Italian brand Zilio A&C, reimagines the classic folding safari and director’s chairs. This contemporary take preserves the emotional warmth and familiarity of the original design while introducing a fresh, modern perspective.
Mentsen’s Yasuyuki Sakurai and Risa Sano were inspired by the evocative nature of these chair types, often associated with warm weather and outdoor moments. They sought to create a design that evokes universal emotional connections. The result is a chair that feels both striking and familiar.
The Bacchette stands out for its minimalist steel folding frame, which gives way to elegant beech that forms the backrest and short arms. These elements appear almost to float, balancing lightness with support. Mentsen’s careful study of structure ensures only the essential elements remain, while the choice of materials, selected for their tactile and functional qualities, reflects a commitment to sustainability.

Steel tube with a black brown or copper brown coloured finish. Beech frame with a natural or wenge or smoke stained finish.
Sling seat in Udine cream fabric or Saddle leather in brandy or dark brown.
