Børge Mogensen

The Danish designer Børge Mogensen created some of the most renowned furniture of the mid-century. The modern designer's work using traditional materials such as leather and wood in a refined and restrained way, to produce elegant and timeless pieces.

Functionality is at the heart of his design, rooted in his training as a cabinet maker at the Copenhagen School of Fine Arts. There he was taught by Kaare Klint, the father of Scandinavian modernism, famous for his original use of natural materials in furniture. The principles of craftsmanship and quality taught at the school were the basis of Mogensen's later works.

Mogensen opened his own design firm in 1950, collaborating with many architects and designers to create furniture and interior schemes; one of these was Andreas Graversen, the founder of Fredericia.
