Isamu Noguchi

The Japanese-American artist and designer Isamu Noguchi established his studio in 1927, through money received from the Guggenheim Fellowship. He had worked with Constantin Brancusi in Paris, and travelled to Asia, learning brush drawing in China and ceramics in Japan. Noguchi's exposure to culture was important to his design development, resulting in pieces which spoke of his dual heritage but also modern concepts of art.

He stated of his work “My father, Yone Noguchi, is Japanese and has long been known as an interpreter of the East to the West, through poetry. I wish to fulfil my heritage”.
