Akari 9AD Table Lamp by Isamu Noguchi for Vitra.
Isamu Noguchi, an American-Japanese artist and designer, began creating the Akari Light Sculptures in 1951. The series includes over 100 handcrafted Shoji-paper models for table lamps, floor lamps, and ceiling fixtures. Noguchi named this lighting series "Akari," which means brightness, lightness, and light in Japanese.
Over time, Noguchi made additional alterations to the sculptures, including their bases. In the 1980s, he introduced the "UF" (unit-based frame) stand with longer and splayed legs, which raised the larger shades higher off the ground.
Herman Miller has the sole license for the Isamu Noguchi collection in the U.S. and the Far East. Therefore the export of these products from the UK to the U.S. is not possible.
