Louis Poulsen

Established in 1874 in Copenhagen, Louis Poulsen holds a legacy of over 150 years in crafting innovative lighting solutions. Originally founded by Ludvig R. Poulsen as a wine-importing business, the company transitioned into a lighting and electrical supplies enterprise with the advent of electricity.

In 1896 Ludvig R. Poulsen brought his nephew, Louise Poulsen, into the business. Louise's eventual takeover of the company and the relocation of its headquarters to Nyhavn 11, a central Copenhagen landmark, marked a new chapter in the company's history.

Louis Poulsen consistently pushes the boundaries of lighting design while continuing to honour the Danish design tradition of form follows function. They view light as a malleable material and craft high-quality lighting with passion, premium materials, and forward-thinking designs.

The company's oeuvre includes collaborations with visionaries such as Arne Jacobsen, Poul Henningsen, and Verner Panton, resulting in the creation of enduring classics such as the PH 5 lamp and the iconic Panthella.

Dedicated to sustainable practices, Louis Poulsen meticulously selects materials and manufacturing methods to minimise environmental impact while enriching the communities they serve. Their sustainability initiatives centre around three core pillars: Design for the Planet, Design for People, and Design for Culture.
