In honour of its 90th anniversary, Artek has revisited some of its most celebrated designs. Titled Gems from the Archive, these classic pieces are reintroduced to celebrate the vision of co-founder and renowned designer and Architect, Alvar Aalto.
One of these timeless designs is the X602 Stool, originally unveiled in the 1954 Konstruktiv Form exhibition at Stockholm’s Nordiska Kompaniet. This signature "X-leg" design, made from five precisely wedge-cut L-legs, was lauded by the Museum of Modern Art in New York as one of his most sophisticated works. The stool features a hexagonal seat crafted from rare "curly birch," a variation of Finnish silver birch, which has a distinctive, wave-like pattern. This unique material is expertly applied using a marquetry technique, adding richness and texture to the piece.
The Stool X602 returns to the Artek collection in a limited edition, celebrating one of Finland’s design icons. The underside of each seat features a numbered 90-year anniversary sticker, making it a standout collector's piece.
