Designed in 1966 by Italian architect and designer Mario Bellini, the Amanta sofa system was reintroduced in 2025 by HAY. Celebrated for its distinctive low profile and sculptural form, the Amanta embodies the enduring appeal of mid-century Italian design.
Bellini’s forward-thinking approach to modular seating is as relevant today as it was at the time of its original design. Each unit functions independently or can be combined into larger configurations, offering flexibility for both residential and commercial settings. The distinctive exposed slotted frame not only reinforces structural integrity but also adds a sculptural design element, while the spherical black feet subtly lift the form from the ground.
Thoughtfully updated with sustainable materials, the shell is crafted from post-consumer recycled ABS, while the cushions use biomass-balanced foam. Every component is engineered for disassembly, supporting longevity, easy maintenance, and environmental responsibility.

Materials
Shell made from ABS with at least 99% post-consumer recycled content.
Moulded plywood board seat with 94% biomass-balanced foam cushions (minimum 87% biomass-balanced for CMHR-treated foam cushions).
Feet made from 100% post-consumer recycled black ABS.
