Cantinetta Armchair
Cantinetta Armchair by Keiji Takeuchi for Karimoku.
Designed by Keiji Takeuchi, the Cantinetta Armchair expands the series with a softer, more relaxed interpretation of the original side chair design. It is influenced by contemporary dining and living spaces where Eastern and Western design sensibilities blend, and where furniture is expected to be both functional and visually unobtrusive.
The design is based on the CS1105 chair, a discontinued Karimoku model that remains in use at the company’s factory cafeteria due to its durability and practical proportions. This existing structure informed the armchair’s updated shape, which widens the seating area and introduces integrated armrests to provide additional support for casual dining and conversation.
“Cantinetta,” meaning “small dining place” in Italian, speaks to the atmosphere it is designed for, informal, social spaces centred around everyday meals. Crafted from beech wood, the chair carries a natural warmth and tactility, with a surface that gradually deepens in colour over time, developing a soft patina with age.
