Bench 153B Seireeni

Artek + Marimekko Bench 153B Seireeni by Alvar Aalto for Artek.

As part of the Artek and Marimekko anniversary collaboration, the Bench 153B is reimagined with Maija Isola’s Seireeni (Siren) pattern, first created in 1964 for her Arkkitehti (Architect) interior series. Inspired by the hypnotic motion of waves during her travels to Greece, the pattern is translated into the birch seat through a refined marquetry technique. Contrasting wood grains bring out the rhythm and flow of the design, creating a shimmer that shifts with changes in light and angle.

Designed by Alvar Aalto in 1945, Bench 153B is a later addition to his L-leg collection. Lightweight and versatile, it sits comfortably in both public and private settings, reflecting Aalto’s vision for adaptable, human-centric design. The bench features the signature L-shaped bent legs - a structural innovation that allows them to be mounted directly to the seat without complex joinery. This method, both functional and elegant, became a hallmark of Aalto’s approach to furniture.

The production process reflects Artek and Marimekko’s shared commitment to sustainability by minimising material waste. Bringing together Marimekko’s art of printmaking and Artek’s wood-bending technology, this edition of Bench 153B honours the legacy of Finnish modernism while continuing its quiet evolution.

Available to order until 31 December 2025.
