Timo Mikkonen + Antti Rouhunkoski
Finnish designers Timo Mikkonen (b. 1979) and Antti Rouhunkoski (b. 1978) began their long-standing creative partnership while studying interior architecture and furniture design at the University of Art and Design Helsinki (now Aalto University). Sharing a common vision and design philosophy, the two began collaborating on spatial design projects early in their career, eventually leading to the founding of Poiat Studio in 2010, an interdisciplinary practice focused on both interior architecture and product design.
Originally focused on interiors, the studio expanded into furniture design with the launch of the Lavitta Collection in 2014. Over time, Poiat grew into two separate entities: Poiat Studio, focused on interiors, led by Rouhunkoski; and Poiat Furniture, directed by Mikkonen. Both continued to work closely together, balancing functional design with atmospheric and emotional impact. Their process often blends personal memory, global influence, and a deep understanding of materials and production techniques to create timeless, tactile works.
As of 2025, Poiat has become part of the Nikari family, continuing its legacy under a company equally rooted in Finnish woodworking tradition and contemporary design.
