Jakob Thau and Sami Kallio explore innovative materials and methods to create Nordic styled furniture. Incorporating their passion for wood and hand craftsmanship, the pair apply classic techniques to new expressions.
Sami Kallio grew up in Sweden, where he achieved a master's degree in design at the Gothenburg School of Design and Crafts. Kallio is trained as a cabinetmaker, using his in-depth expertise of wood and artisan methods, which are at the forefront of his manufacturing processes. Specialising in classic designs and adapting them to a modern context.
Jakob Thau was born in Sweden and brought up in Denmark. He also trained as a cabinetmaker and achieved his master's degree at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design. Through a focus on timelessness, Thau celebrates traditional techniques in woodworking and explores new materials to create designs that can be functional and used by everyone.
Together they designed the Betty collection for &tradition, named after Copenhagen’s Betty Nansen Theatre.
