Side Table 915 | Special Edition
Side Table 915 | Special Edition by Alvar Aalto for Artek.
Limited edition of 20.
In collaboration with Artek, twentytwentyone presents an exclusive edition of the Side Table 915. It is a design originally created for the renowned Paimio Sanatorium, now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
This special edition reimagines the table with a honey-stained top and shelf, paired with a contrasting black-lacquered frame, a colourway last seen in the 1930s to 1950s. Limited to just 20 pieces, only 10 are available through twentytwentyone in London, with the remaining 10 offered exclusively at Markanto in Cologne.
Designed by Alvar Aalto in 1932, the Side Table 915 is a pioneering example of bent plywood craftsmanship. It remains one of the most iconic pieces of 20th-century design, showcasing Aalto’s visionary approach to form and function. With its clean lines and elegant proportions, the table is a testament to Aalto's belief that furniture should not only be functional but also enhance the human experience.
Alvar Aalto, alongside his wife Aino, were trailblazers in human-centric architecture and organic modernism, drawing inspiration from nature’s shapes and materials. Their work, heavily influenced by the German Bauhaus movement, transformed the use of plywood in furniture design, with experimentation beginning as early as 1927. Together, they created a lasting legacy of furniture, lighting, and accessories, many of which are now held in esteemed museum collections worldwide.
Artek celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2025, marking nearly a century of design excellence and innovation.
