The Eames Lounge chair, designed in 1956, offers a perfect blend of comfort, fine materials, and craftsmanship. Inspired by the classic British club chair, Charles and Ray Eames created a lighter, more refined, and contemporary lounge chair that has become one of the most distinguished designs in modern furniture history.
The production of the Lounge Chair involves 47 distinct steps, many of which require handwork. Each step is meticulously executed using high-quality materials to ensure long-lasting quality, making the lounge chair durable enough to be passed down for generations.
Since the iconic design first went into production, the average human height has increased by nearly 10cm. To accommodate this change, Vitra has developed a new, larger version of the Lounge Chair, allowing the option to choose between the original 'Classic dimensions' and the larger size.
Herman Miller has the sole license for the Charles and Ray Eames collection in the U.S. and the Far East. Therefore the export of these products from the UK to the U.S. is not possible.

Materials
The seat and backrest shells are moulded plywood with a walnut face veneer with a white pigmented finish.
Cushions upholstered in the following Vitra leathers (see PDF downloads for samples) and Nubia fabrics:
Leather Premium F: Snow, Clay, Olive.
Leather Natural F: Dark Sand.
Nubia Fabrics: Ivory Pearl, Cream Pearl, Cream Sand, Bamboo Terra, Cream Sierra Grey.
The five-star swivel base and back brace are polished die-cast aluminium.
Vitra uses 95% recycled aluminium whenever possible.
Base available with a choice of glides for carpet or hard flooring.
